West coast met East coast as CCAD associate provost Char Norman and her brother Kurt Steger presented Confluence of Form at the Cultural Arts Center, August 27 through October 8, 2006.

Using a weaving process to create 3-dimensional forms, Ms. Norman’s work reflects natural elements. These are combined with cast handmade paper embellished with drawings. The sculptures are often encased in plastic suggesting entrapment while at the same time incorporating pieces, which protrude from the case. Included in the exhibition were earlier pieces developed as the sculptural artist’s books and a recent series of drawings derived from her childhood home on the beaches of Southern California.

Kurt Steger is a well-known sculptor in Northern California. He has work in numerous collections and has just completed a major installation in the new Sacramento City Hall. Mr. Steger has a background in fine woodworking. His sculptures incorporate not only wood but also concrete, paper, and natural elements.
